Documentation and regulation
Novel foods are new foods and food ingredients. Since 1997 novel foods placed on the EU market have been subject to a safety assessment. The present regulation is under revision and the aim of the coming regulation is to facilitate the approval of novel foods.
At this course we will be studying the current rules closely, including what to do if you wish to obtain approval of a novel food or check if a certain food should be considered a novel food.
We will also look at the requirements for documentation when applying for approval of novel foods, for instance the scientific aspects. Data requirements will be illustrated by existing approvals and refusals.
