How to ensure they are suitable for food
Food contact materials are not only packaging. They also include processing equipment, kitchen tools, table ware, cutlery, etc. The legislation covers all materials, not only plastic, although plastics have more specific regulation.
It may be difficult to understand the legislation on food contact materials. The one-day-course aims at providing you with a general view of the regulation plus directions on how to handle the legal requirements for safety documentation (certificate of compliance).
A harmonisation of the rules in the EU is under continuous development, but what about the rest of the world? Do the EU rules agree with the food contact legislation in the United States, and how do you comply with both legislations?
Target group
Manufacturers and importers of packaging and processing equipment, kitchen tools etc. who have little or no experience with food contact materials.
Participants must be familiar with the EU regulation 1935/2004 on materials and articles intended to come into contact with food.
After the course
you will be able to assess if the requirements have been fulfilled and if the documentation is correct. You will also be able to determine what it is reasonable to request from a manufacturer of food contact materials.
